Curtis Polocrosse Racquets began manufacturing polocrosse racquets over 50 years ago.  Eddie Curtis, over the years, perfected the polocrosse racquet and produced the first full cane racquet.  Up until this point polocrosse racquets were made by attaching a cut down squash racquet with a loosely strung net, to a shaft.  These cane or ‘wicker’ racquets soon became popular and are still used by some players. 

Over the years Mr Curtis gradually shortened the shaft and lengthened the hand piece to a length with which we are all now familiar.  But perhaps Eddie’s greatest contribution to the sport of polocrosse was his invention of the adjustable net.  The new net design allowed quick and easy adjustments to be made to a racquet and also made it possible for the net to be deepened without affecting the way in which it throws.  This had huge implications as now players could not only carry a ball without losing it but could also throw it with extreme accuracy.  As a result the game soon became faster and more possession was converted into goals leading to the adrenaline charged, high scoring game we know today.

As time progressed the business passed to Eddie’s daughter-in-law Del.  Del Curtis carried on the tradition of making the world’s finest polocrosse racquets and introduced innovations of her own such as the first graphite head.  Curtis Polocrosse Racquets is now run by Andrew Phillips who aims to build on the success of the past and continue to bring innovation to the game of Polocrosse. 

Andrew is based in Queensland, Australia and has played polocrosse for more than 18 years, representing both Queensland and Australia.  As well as playing and manufacturing polocrosse equipment he also is a NCAS level 2 Coach, and runs “Yan Yean Park” a horse training complex focusing predominantly on polocrosse. He possesses a real passion for the sport had has made the game his life.  His dedication to perfection results in quality products and satisfied customers.
